As a group of academics from the University of Tokyo, we visited the Tohoku University Hospital and the Miyagi region. We had a meeting with the academics in Tohoku University, such as Prof. Atsuhiro Nakagawa and Prof. Teiji Tominaga, who played a key role in Emergency Department during the Tsunami.

I also met a number of key people, such as Hatakeyama Shigeatsu, known as “Grandpa Oyster”, and Dr Takeshi Kanno, who was selected as one of the most influential people in the world by Times in 2012.

I had a chance to meet amazing people who proudly helped the people in the Tsunami region so minimised the long-term effects of the Tsunami. Priceless experience…

Special thanks to Prof Hiromichi Kimura, who arranged this amazing trip, and kindly contributed to my own research!
